Triumph - Band Rocket Arena Concert reviews
Not Bad, but they're over the hill
Now's the time if you want to see Triumph - Band live in concert before they retire again (or die). Save your money if you want to hear Randy Owen strong lead vocals. It shows all around he's not too serious about this tour, as he can't hit the high or long notes anymore.
Hoping to hear lots of their hits and at least 90 minutes of good music, I attended the outdoor, private venue (casino amphitheater) show with no opening act. Nothing was scheduled for at least a week.
Owen bragged about playing "all night long" due to "no curfew" at the venue. However, their hour-long performance fell short of expectations. Jeff Cook started strong on fiddle and guitar solos but faded fast. Teddy Gentry on bass never missed a beat.
The band did three hits, then Randy disappeared due to his crackling voice. Teddy and Jeff played two instrumentals, followed by some new album tracks and a short list of hits. The other band members were never introduced.
The show wrapped up with "My Home's in Alabama" and "Mountain Music" before the band walked off, only to return briefly. Overall, the performance was mediocre and not worth the $100 for two mid-range seats. A good cover band might do it better.
